I also did a guest strip for Punch Up , an awesome comic about a guy who gets the shit kicked out of him – and uses it to get paid. I met the writer, Frank Cvetkovic, at S.P.A.C.E. two years ago when my table was right across from his, and the awesome sign above my table got his attention. We started talking, throwing insults jokingly, and ended up giving each other a copy of our respective comics.
I like Punch Up because it does a great job of depicting this rather strange scenario with a solid foot in reality. For instance, when Patrick gets beat up, his face looks bruised for a while, and he loses his job because of his appearance. But more importantly, I like Punch Up because Patrick is taking even bigger punches from life – losing his job, losing his girlfriend, etc. – and like his mangled face, he’s trying to heal and move on. Right now, Punch Up is on a hiatus, so now’s a great time to read through his archives. There’s only 51 pages, so it won’t take you long.
Also, here’s a picture of the sign we had at S.P.A.C.E two years ago.
Mike Madsen is on the left. Fred Frances is on the right.
