What is Pretty Jeff?

Pretty Jeff is a journal comic that isn’t afraid of altering reality but stays true to being emotionally honest.

Why is it called Pretty Jeff?

There’s sort of a long story behind it, so get comfortable. But not too much, because it isn’t that long.

My friend Fred and I decided to dress up as each other for an art department Halloween party. Needless to say, it was well received. Anyway, the professor’s daughters were at the party too (they’re like 5 or something. They play in the art building while their parents work, so they know just about everybody in the art building). They come up and ask why are we dressed up as each other. I say “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m Fred and he’s Jeff.” One of them responds “No, you’re Fred and you’re pretty Jeff.”

Everyone thought it was funny, and some people began calling me “Pretty Jeff.” Later, when I was making this website, Fred suggested that the URL should be prettyjeff.com.

So there you go. That’s why it’s called Pretty Jeff.

After the Halloween party was long over and the nickname had stuck for a couple of months, one of the professor’s daughters, the one who had called me Pretty Jeff, asked Fred about why everyone was calling me Pretty Jeff. When he said why, she said that she meant I was “sorta Jeff,” not “Beautiful Jeff.” The name still continued with the original meaning.
